The corruption involved with the non-payment of Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMMEs) employed through a drain cleaning project in Nelson Mandela Bay, has now led to all-out war and killings in the City.
This is a clear indication that the failing ANC’s corruption is killing our people.
The ANC-led coalition of corruption has, since it took power at end of August 2018, done its best the bleed the coffers of the Metro dry and eat the money that is meant to uplift the people of Nelson Mandela Bay.
In December 2019, the Municipality allocated work packages to the tune of R21m to 945 SMMEs.
Earlier this month hundreds of people protested after SMMEs were not paid for work done.
The violence broke out on Monday after it was earlier revealed that only a select few actually benefitted from the project.
Since then NMB business people have lost their lives.
The DA today tabled a motion of exigency at a meeting of the Municipal Public Account Committee (MPAC) to force Cllr Mongameli Bobani, Executive Mayor, and Mr Peter Neilson, Acting City Manager, to immediately release to the public a report detailing all payments made by the Metro and the and its distribution of payments thereafter.
This must be done in the interest of transparency and public interest given the volatile situation which has regrettably already led to loss of life.
The ANC is harming and killing South Africa and many more will die because the ANC simply does not care about ordinary South Africans.
The ANC government has lost R700 billion to corruption, but it chose to save money by cutting food and care for the most helpless and vulnerable among us.
Only a DA government can fight corruption, create an honest and professional police service, insure fair access to jobs, secure our borders, speed up basic service delivery and build One South Africa for All.
