Today, 27 February 2019, DA Eastern Cape Premier Candidate, Nqaba Bhanga, led a picket for the removal of Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor, Xola Pakati, at East London City Hall.
The Premier Candidate was joined by DA activists and Councillors in leading the call for Mayor Pakati to be removed.
The DA tabled a motion of no confidence in Mayor Pakati last month and this was set down to be debated during today’s BCM Council Meeting.
Mayor Pakati was unable to deal timeously with last year’s South African Municipal Workers Union (SAMWU) strike in BCM – an issue that could have been resolved in 2016.
The strike caused the Municipality and business owners great financial loss.
The Metro also continues to face serious financial and governance issues.
Factionalism within the ANC is holding the Council and the residents of BCM to ransom.
Only a DA government can fight corruption, speed up basic service delivery and bring real Change that Builds One South Africa for All.
