Desperate ANC’s frivolous MONC will not deter DA-governed Kouga

The DA welcomes the fact that another frivolous motion of no confidence tabled by the desperate ANC against the Mayor of the Kouga Municipality, DA Cllr Horatio Hendricks, has failed.

The ANC’s motion was first set down to be debated at a special council meeting on Friday, 3 March 2023, but was declared incompetent as it did not adhere to the rules of order of council.

A new motion was submitted and was to be debated today, 20 March 2023, at a sitting of Council.

However, council could only note and acknowledge the motion, and could not vote on the matter as it did not recommend that any action be taken.

These motions are nothing more than desperate attempts to disrupt the progress made by Mayor Hendricks and the DA government. The ANC’s desperation and incompetence are highlighted by the fact that they could not even bring proper motions to council. It is nothing more than political gamesmanship.

In Kouga, the public’s money is being prudently spent and services are being delivered. The ANC will do all in its power to keep the people from seeing this good governance.

The track record of the DA speaks for itself.

The 2021 ‘out of order index’ compiled by News24 rated Kouga as the best-run municipality in the Eastern Cape, and in the top 10 nationally.

While the Eastern Cape is experiencing the most debilitating drought in 100 years, Kouga is the only municipality to have commissioned four water purification plants to ensure drinkable water for its residents.

The DA has governed Kouga outright since 2016, and the successes speak for themselves.

To name but a few:

  • 120 new municipal vehicles procured since August 2016.
  • More than 700kg of recycled waste plastic to build the first eco-friendly road in Jeffreys Bay.
  • State-of-the-art Kruisfontein Wastewater Treatment Works upgraded at a cost of R85.6 million.
  • Sea Vista Wastewater Treatment Works upgraded at a cost of R31 million.
  • Total of 3 056 title deeds handed over.
  • Total of 24 roads upgraded from gravel roads to tar roads.
  • More than 40 CCTV cameras installed.
  • 30 Production wells/ boreholes in use.

The DA will continue to do what we do best – govern and deliver services to all the people.

We will not be deterred from our mission to keep making progress in Kouga.
