The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape extends its heartfelt congratulations to the High-Performance Girls Cricket Centre in Gqeberha on the successful and inspiring launch of this transformative initiative.
The establishment of the Centre marks a milestone for girls’ cricket in South Africa. It is not only a celebration of sporting ambition, but also a powerful statement that talent, hard work, and determination will be recognised and nurtured regardless of gender. This initiative signals the end of an era where young girls were too often given second-best and the beginning of a future where they are given every opportunity to thrive.
By combining expert coaching from current and former professional cricketers with advanced performance tracking and data-led assessments, the Centre sets a new standard for fairness, excellence, and transparency in sports development. This is not simply a coaching programme; it is a merit-based platform where every girl has a chance to succeed based on ability and effort.
We commend the Centre for its bold and innovative vision, which uplifts not only individual players but also contributes meaningfully to the transformation and professionalisation of women’s sport across the province. Players from under-13 to under-19 will now have access to training, mentoring, and competitive play at a level previously unavailable to most girls in the region. They will also benefit from exposure to national fixtures and, potentially, international partnerships and tours.
The DA is proud to support initiatives that promote gender equality, youth empowerment, and excellence in sport. The launch of the High-Performance Girls Cricket Centre is a shining example of these principles in action, and we look forward to seeing the incredible impact it will have on the lives of young athletes in Gqeberha and beyond.
We thank all those involved in making this vision a reality. From coaches to mentors, partners and supporters, your dedication to building a more inclusive and aspirational sporting future is deeply appreciated.
Congratulations once again on this landmark achievement. May this be the start of a new era for girls’ cricket in the Eastern Cape.
