The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape is proud to announce the selection of Annelize Stanley as the candidate, as recommended by the selection panel and pending the outcome of the appeals process, for the upcoming by-election in Nelson Mandela Bay Ward 34, taking place on 16 July 2025.

Annelize has been living in Ward 34 for the past 25 years and is a dedicated servant of the people of Arcadia, Sanctor, Salsoneville and West End. She has a proven record of meaningful community engagement with a focus on fighting crime and rehabilitating former gang members, assisting with issues at local clinics, distributing food and is a dedicated DA activist. Annelize is also a member of the Ward 34 ward committee. She has a clear understanding of the challenges and aspirations of the residents of Ward 34.

The DA ran a fair and objective candidate selection process in which Annelize was the top performing. The party will now write to all the other aspirant candidates who were part of the process to inform them of the outcome.

The ward councillor position was left vacant after the passing of Johnny Arends, who served as the Ward 34 councillor from 2011 until his tragic death in a motor vehicle accident in April of this year.

Annelize has big shoes to fill, but brings renewed leadership and unwavering commitment to improving the lives of those she serves.

The role of a ward councillor has become increasingly demanding, particularly in the face of the collapse of municipal services in Nelson Mandela Bay under the current ANC-led government.

Annelize understands and is committed to the DA’s mission to fix what we can from our own pockets until we take over government in 2026 and get Nelson Mandela Bay working again.

We are confident in her ability to meet the demands of this role and to serve the residents of Ward 34 with distinction. Once elected, she will work closely with the DA Caucus to implement our mandate of delivering clean, accountable governance and quality services to every resident.

The DA is in your corner, fighting for you. Together we can get Nelson Mandela Bay working again.
