The Democratic Alliance-led Kouga Municipality has once again shown what proactive governance can achieve by securing the World Surf League – Corona Cero Open J-Bay, from 11 to 20 July 2025, on the world-famous Supertubes in Jeffreys Bay.
This landmark event will bring world-class surfing and entertainment to our shores while providing a much-needed infusion of economic activity and job opportunities for the province.
Jeffreys Bay is renowned for its perfect right-point break, offering endless possibilities. By bringing the Corona Cero Open J-Bay to our coastline, Kouga Municipality will attract thousands of visitors from across South Africa and around the world. The influx of tourists will boost the hospitality, retail, and transportation sectors while showcasing the beauty of our coastline.
Under DA leadership, Kouga has a proven track record of delivering services. Working closely with event organisers, local entrepreneurs, and community groups, the municipality has created hundreds of temporary jobs in event logistics, security, hospitality, and vendor services.
The event has, in turn, opened up new opportunities for small business owners, ranging from bed-and-breakfasts to craft markets and food trucks. The municipality has also partnered with training centres to develop skills in event management and safety standards.
The economic ripple effect will extend beyond Jeffreys Bay as suppliers of accommodation, catering, and equipment hire experience increased demand, and restaurants, shops, and petrol stations benefit from higher foot traffic. This growth will uplift household incomes and strengthen stability for families across the region.
The DA is proud of Kouga’s leadership in delivering events that unite communities, showcase natural assets, and drive sustainable growth. This international surfing festival highlights what can be achieved when capable and transparent governance is combined with a bold vision, while reinforcing investor confidence in the province.
The DA will continue to champion projects that create jobs, support local businesses, and stimulate economic growth. We congratulate the Kouga Municipality on securing this festival and pledge our full support to ensure that every visitor leaves with a memorable experience and every resident benefits from it.
