The DA contributed to a victory for the people of the King Sabata Dalindyebo (KSD) Local Municipality, and especially the residents of Mthatha, when the KSD Mayor, Cllr Dumani Zozo, resigned at a council meeting today.

On 15 April the DA, led by Phesheya KweNciba Constituency Leader, Chantel King, and DA KSD Caucus Leader, Cllr Raymond Knock, submitted a letter requesting a No Confidence Motion in Mayor Zozo to the office of the Speaker of Council.

The DA’s No Confidence Motion was placed last on today’s council agenda, but the former Mayor resigned before it could be argued in council.

This followed after the DA, in the run up to the council meeting, was approached by more than 20 ANC councillors willing to support our motion through a secret ballot.

To keep the motion from being successful, the ANC ordered Cllr Zozo to resign.

The DA took the step to remove the mayor when it became clear the failing  ANC government had no plans to deal with a protracted strike by KSD municipal workers that has left Mthatha in a total state of chaos.

The strike was resolved last week and the difficult process of cleaning up the city has begun.

A DA government will build One South Africa for All by improving public health services in Mthatha and speeding up the delivery of basic services such as water and sanitation.
