The DA’s victory in the highly contested Nelson Mandela Bay Ward 34 by-election underscores the resilience of our support in the face of dirty campaign tactics which included vote buying.

Voters, who had given smaller parties a chance in previous elections, are increasingly uniting behind the DA. The voters have come to the realisation that these smaller parties sold them out by continuously keeping the ANC in power.

The DA congratulates newly elected Ward Councillor Annelize Stanley on her victory. We are confident that she will represent the residents of Ward 34 with dedication and integrity in the Nelson Mandela Bay Council.

The role of a ward councillor has become increasingly demanding, particularly in the face of the collapse of municipal services in Nelson Mandela Bay under the current ANC-led government.

Annelize understands and is committed to the DA’s mission in Nelson Mandela Bay to fix what we can from our own pockets until we take over government after the next Local Government Election.

We extend our gratitude to our activists, volunteers, public representatives, campaign team, staff and most importantly the voters who supported the DA in this crucial by-election.

The DA will continue to fight for quality service delivery and good governance to be brought back to Nelson Mandela Bay.

Together we can get Nelson Mandela Bay working again.
