The Democratic Alliance (DA) in the Eastern Cape is pleased to announce that we have won Ward 2 in the Kouga Municipality and achieved explosive growth in Ward 10 in the Makana Municipality following yesterday’s by-elections.
This victory in Kouga Ward 2 ensures that the ward, which includes Pellsrus, Madiba Bay and Aston Bay, remains in capable DA hands.
It is clear that the residents of Kouga want to keep a DA government – recently recognised as the best municipality in the Eastern Cape for excellence in financial management, stability, and service delivery. They want to retain a DA administration that has delivered the municipality’s first clean audit.
In Makana Ward 10, an ANC stronghold in Makhanda, residents turned out in large numbers to support the DA and our candidate, Chris Bodla. We grew our support from 1,47% in the 2021 local government elections to 26,38%.
More voters, even in ANC dominated municipalities, are realising that the DA is the only party that can get things done.
These results are a clear indication that voters are ready to elect DA governments across the province at next year’s local government elections.
We congratulate newly elected Kouga Ward 2 Councillor Bonita Moos on her victory. We are confident that she will represent the residents of Ward 2 with dedication and integrity in the Kouga Council.
Most importantly, we thank the voters in both wards who placed their trust in us.
The DA also extends our gratitude to our candidates, activists, volunteers, public representatives, campaign team, and staff members for all their hard work.
We will continue to govern with excellence in DA-run municipalities and fight for change in all other local governments.
